Summary

I had never really thought about it the way Jim [Hamilton]explained when God said to Adam in the Garden “Where art thou?” Duh, God is omnipotent so he knew exactly where Adam was hiding. God was asking where are you, Adam, in your relationship to Me. I believe this is the universal question that we need to answer every day in order to keep ourselves on track to be the kind of person God would have us all to be. If we are messed up there is a good chance our church is going to be messed up. When our relationship with God is messed up we tend to want to put the blame on others, just like Adam did in Genesis 3:12, when he said “. . .the woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.” Rather than admitting that the sin problem was his, Adam’s response was to throw Eve under the bus. That response was rebellious and it didn’t fool God one second. The consequences were tragic as both were cast out of the paradise God had prepared for them to inhabit. You see, messed up people can mess up even paradise. If Adam would have owned up to his personal sins the Genesis story might have ended differently. We, today, do have that opportunity to admit our personal sin and confess to God that we are messed up. 1John 1:9, says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Today is not the time to be throwing others under the bus, but a time to let God restore us to the rightful position as His sons and daughters in Christ. I know of at least two people who rededicated their life yesterday during our service, because I am one of the two. We can fix the mess we have made of our church if we honestly respond to God’s question of ”Where art thou?”
