Hope can be defined “to cherish a desire with expectation of fulfillment. Hope is a trustful expectation. It can mean “anticipation of a favorable outcome under God’s guidance.” We love to sing the song The Solid Rock. “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. Our faith is in Jesus Christ. Our hope is in Jesus Christ, the solid rock! I Peter encourages us to make sure our hope and faith are in God. We believe in Him and we trust Him. We are redeemed by His precious blood. Therefore our present and eternal hope is in Him. Many in our world today are lacking hope. Nothing seems to be going right despite trying all the world has to offer. The good news is that Jesus Christ offers hope to the hopeless. Apart from a relationship with Jesus there is no hope! Jesus offers us a Living hope. The Bible says clearly that Jesus is our hope! We have hope because of what God has done in Christ. Jesus defeated the power of sin and death. He has begotten us into a living hope. We live in hope because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells inside of us. With the assurance of hope we can live in the present with confidence. With the assurance of hope we can face the future with courage. We can triumph over our trials because of the promises of God. Romans five tells us that tribulation produces perseverance, and perseverance character, and character produces hope! Christian hope is a gift from God and serves as the anchor of our soul. And because of a Living Hope we can have a Longing Hope. We believe God is in control. We believe Jesus died on the cross for our sin. And we believe that He rose again on the third day just like He said He would! The risen Christ is our hope! Praise God we are heirs according to the hope of eternal life! We long for Him to come again, just as He has promised.
