Summary

Great is Thy faithfulness, Oh God my Father. There is no shadow of turning with Thee. Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not. As Thou has been, Thou forever will be. Great is Thy faithfulness, great is Thy faithfulness. Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand has provided. Great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto me. This hymn is taken from Lamentations chapter three and proclaims a tremendous truth that encourages us today. We serve a God who is faithful. In fact David encourages us in Psalm 37 to “feed on His faithfulness.” “Feed” here can mean to furnish something essential to the growth, sustenance, maintenance, or operation of something. If we are going to live a viable life of service to Him we would do well to “feed” on His faithfulness. Because He is faithful we can trust Him, delight in Him, and commit ourselves to Him. Truly great is His faithfulness! His Faithfulness is Constant. It is consistent. It will never change. We live in a world that is constantly changing, where nothing seems to stay the same. But the Bible says God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. In Malachi God says, “I will not change.” James tells us that there is no variation or shadow of turning with God. Job states “God is unique, who can make Him change?” The answer is no one or nothing can change God. His mercy is everlasting, His truth endures to all generations, and His faithfulness is constant! The Faithfulness of God is NOT Conditional. We do not have to strive to be good enough to earn His faithfulness. It is not based on our performance, but rather on the person of Jesus Christ and what He has done for us. No matter what God remains faithful. II Timothy 2:13 says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful.” When we slide away, when we falter in our obedience to Him, God is still faithful. His faithfulness is not conditional, and we are compelled to feed on His faithfulness! The Faithfulness of God provides a Covering for His people. Psalm 85 tells us clearly that God has covered all our sin. He hides our life in the depths of His love and covers us there with His hand. We are commanded to confess our sin and then He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God is faithful. He is always ready to forgive us our sin. Today feed on His faithfulness! “Pardon for sin and a peace that endures. Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide. Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow. Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.” Tomorrow is brighter and full of hope because of the greatness of His faithfulness!
