I.) A HISTORICAL Milestone. a.) What did God put in Nehemiah's heart to do and what happens next? (vs. 5) b.) Why would God want Nehemiah to enroll His people in a genealogy? (Jer 32:37-41) II.)THE IRREVOCABLE Calling OF GOD. a.) Why would this genealogy be so careful to distinguish those of unknown ancestry from those of true Israelite descent? (Deut 14:2; 10:12-13; Jer 31:33; see also Gen 12:2-3; Isa 46:9-10; Rom 8:28-30; Rom 11:29; Eph 1:11) b.) Why should we consider this aspect of the genealogy, namely how it signifies the irrevocable calling of God? i. Because our whole Salvation experience. (Jn 6:44, 2 Tm 1:9; 1 Pt 2:9) ii. Because our Gospel Witness and Ministry. (Jn 16:8-11; Rom 10:17; Titus 3:4-8). III.) A SOMBER Reality Check. (Jn 10; Rev 20:12-15)

I.) BE Steadfast. a.)What does it mean to be steadfast? (Colossians 1:21-23) b.) How does Nehemiah demonstrate steadfastness? c.) Brothers and sisters, does our faith in Jesus Christ, exhibit this kind of steadfastness? (Mt 6:33; Mt 10:28; 2 Cor 9:8; Gal 6:9) II.)UNDERSTAND AND See! a.) To be steadfast, learn to Look through what is happening in life, and seek to understand what is true and right! b.) How would Nehemiah know Shemaiah was not sent from God? c.) How can we gain power to discern between good and evil? (Heb 5:11-14; Eph 5:15-18; Col 3:16) III.)GOD WILL BE Victorious! a. What did earlier reformers of the faith call the teaching of God keeping us steadfast in the faith? (Rom 8:28; 1 Thess 5:23-24; Jn 6:37-39; Jn 17:11-17; Eph 1:13-14; 1 Pt 1:3-5) b.) What did we learn happened to the wall in Nehemiah 6:15? c.) Our Sovereign God Always finishes what He begins, Always does what He says, and Nothing can thwart His plans! (Isaiah 14:27; 46:9-10; Jeremiah 29:10-11; Ezra 1:1-2 (cf. Isaiah 44:28); Philippians 1:6; 2:12-13; 2 Cor 5:19-20)

DRIVEN BY FEAR. NEHEMIAH 5:14-19 I.) MARKER #1.Selfless Humility. a.)Why did Nehemiah did not take advantage of his rights as governor? (vs. 14-16) b.) Does Jesus require this kind of response from us? (see 1Tm. 6:15-16, Mt 16:24-27; 20:25-28) II.) MARKER #2. GREATER CONCERN FOR Others. a.) Nehemiah counted his fellow Jews more significant than himself! (vs. 15,17,18) b.) What about us? III.) MARKER #3. Fervent Spirit FOR SERVING THE LORD. a.) Why did it matter so much for Nehemiah to be involved in the good work? b.) What Mission has God entrusted us with? (1 Pt 4:10-11)

1.) See yourself as part of something Grander than your own little world. 2.) Give yourself to one magnificent passion. 3.) Strive together for one another's joy in the faith.
